Bug description

Under Py_GIL_DISABLED, setiter_len() reads so->used non-atomically while concurrent set mutations update it atomically.

This triggers a data race detectable by TSAN when one thread repeatedly calls iterator.__length_hint__() while another mutates the same set

Par où commencer

  4. Ouvrez une pull request qui référence le numéro de l'issue.

Piste de recherche

Commencez dans Objects/setobject.c, à setiter_len(), vers la ligne 1059, puis comparez avec la mise à jour atomique dans set_discard_entry(), vers la ligne 594. Exécutez le script fourni tsan_setiter_len_race.py avec le build ThreadSanitizer free-threading ; c’est terminé lorsque la charge de travail concurrente combinant l’indication de longueur et la mutation du set ne signale plus cette condition de concurrence.
