Research direction

Start with the ops CLI's update path and its use of the Go git library; reproduce the failure after setting HTTP_PROXY and HTTPS_PROXY, then trace how the variables reach the git operation. Done means `ops -update` works through the configured proxy, with a regression check for the environment variables.
