Using xdist with pytest-split

Since most CI machines has between one and a half to two CPUs it is a waste not to combine both approaches when appropriate.
Can we use both of these plugins together?

Start by investigating how pytest-split partitions tests and how xdist schedules them together, including whether either plugin documents compatibility constraints. Determine the project entry points and tests involved from the repository, then define done as verified combined operation or a clearly documented incompatibility.
