How to use databinding with CountryCodePicker in xml

I am trying to use country code picker with databinding variable, however in XML I cannot use any tag for binding with viewmodel
variable like for edittext I get text="@{viewmodel.phone}"

Start with the XML usage described in this issue and the referenced issue #250; no source file or test is identified. Determine whether CountryCodePicker already documents a databinding path or whether library support is being requested. Done should be a clear, verified way to bind the picker to a ViewModel, or documentation explaining that usage.
