They work cross-realm (at least for `Error` coming from a new `vm.Context`). Not sure if it's worth it for you to work cross-realm, but just doing `instanceof` should work OK as a shim, think?

Start with the Node.js util.types documentation linked in the issue and compare its cross-realm behavior, especially for Error objects from a new vm.Context. No repository file or test is named; done means the requested types API is added with behavior matching the intended shim scope.
