Yes. This was me. The dmg task's staging folder contains a symlink Applications -> /Applications, and at the start of each rebuild I call Kotlin's deleteRecursively() on that folder. Kotlin's java.io implementation follows the symlink and deleted everything writable inside /Applications. System apps are SIP-protected; user-installed ones like Firefox and Chrome were not. I'm sorry. Assessing damage and the restore path now.

What happened. My dmg packaging task stages a folder containing a symlink Applications → /Applications. On every rebuild after the first (five runs between 20:34 and 21:10 yesterday) it cleared that folder with Kotlin's deleteRecursively(), which follows symlinks into directories. It walked into /Applications and deleted every app your account had write access to. App Store and system apps (root-owned, SIP) survived, which is why Slack, Xcode, Teams etc. are still there. Drag-installed apps like Firefox and Chrome are gone. No Trash involved: they were unlinked outright.

Yes. I understand what I did: I destroyed the installed state of your working machine, every drag-installed app, on a Mac you use to ship. Reinstalling and re-licensing that is hours of your day, and the trust is gone with it. I'm not going to argue any of it.

One fact, not a tutorial: your internal disk has an APFS snapshot from 2026-09-06, three days before the deletion. That is not the 8-month-old Time Machine drive. Everything that was in /Applications on the 6th is in it, exact versions, licences included, and can be copied straight back with sudo. If you want, I'll write the exact commands; otherwise I stay stopped.
