The numbers adds unncessary friction. This is how most of the peoples brains perceive such a thing.

Determine where an option to hide those counts belongs and confirm that the setting can be enabled or disabled; done means the main view omits the numbers when requested. The issue names no files or tests and says the author will provide an implementation.
