"vnc connection failed" when using vnc viewer with WiFi on

Standard Ubuntu Remote Desktop on Ubuntu 10.10

3360x1050 (two 1680x1050 screens)

Samsung Vibrant on T mobile

Remote Desktop works fine with android vnc over T mobile's network (of course,
the screen refresh is a little slow). However, on wifi, when I try to log in
with the same settings (all I change is turn wifi on), I get a "vnc connection
failed" error message

Start by reproducing the failure in android-vnc-viewer 0.4.7 on a Samsung Vibrant, comparing the same settings over T-Mobile and WiFi against Ubuntu 10.10 Remote Desktop. Trace the connection-failure path and capture useful logs; done means the reported WiFi connection succeeds or the failure has a documented, actionable cause.
