redesign example processor - include saving procedure when calling `stop()`

In recent experimental stress-testing we found the need to improve the saving logic for custom processors: always save the data stream when the processor is stopped (for whatever reason).

Currently our example processor does not save any data when calling a bare stop(). For future reference it might be helpful to change the example to include a standard saving call when stopping the processor.
