Start by running the Horizontal Directional Drilling Simulation and reproduce the two reported cases: an infinite circular path and drilling through the existing pipe. Trace the simulation's well and pipe collision behavior; done means self-intersections are prevented and drilling through the pipe no longer breaks it.
