V1.2.4 Outpaint still doesn't work

I generate an image using txt2img, works fine. Then click the accept green button, then drag the existing marquee, keeping half inside the artwork and the other half into empty space.
Then select outpaint.
Give the prompt and click Generate outpaint and only the marquee half that's inside the artwork changes, the other half inside the empty space, nothing happens.
Inside the two thumbnails that are below the txt2image, img2img, buttons only the image thumbnail has an image, the mask thumbnail is empty. I tried clicking the two pencil icons (view modified mask, view original mask) nothing happens.

What's causing this? how can I fix it.
