Start by reviewing the linked PR gh-157624 and the two referenced patches, tilde_escape.patch and @tilde.patch. Then inspect the IDLE/Tkinter save-as behavior and its existing tests, if identified from that work. Done means the reported ~x.py save-as case no longer closes IDLE and the relevant regression behavior is covered.
