Description

Feature or enhancement

Proposal:

We should immortalize all functions in the builtins module. This has benefits for the JIT, and will move the default build closer to the FT build.

Has this already been discussed elsewhere?

I have already discussed this feature proposal on Discourse

Research direction

The issue names no source files or tests. Start by reading linked PR gh-135851 and the linked Discourse discussion to identify the implementation entry points and relevant tests; the work is done when all functions in the builtins module are immortalized or deferred as proposed and the affected tests pass.
