Bounding box does not persist

Using plotly.js users are able to select and manipulate data; however in all use cases for the application that is currently being developed -- users want to see the area that the mouse has selected in the plots without changing the nature of the individual plot points.

• Users do not want individual data points to change in shape / color / opacity when selected. We have tried many variations on this using Plotly-provided hooks on both the selected AND unselected points but users are steadfast that they do not approve of this workaround.
• One approach we have tried is to make the non-selected data points fade slightly for visual emphasis - however fading them significantly has led to pushback. The users have communicated that the data points NOT selected should remain unchanged.
• Users would like a persistent box that they have drawn around the data points to remain visible on the plot whenever selections are present. This 'bounding box' should remain around the selected markers and behave appropriately when scrolling, zooming in/out, or resizing the graph.

• Consistency would mean an outline as well for the 'draw'/'lasso' selection:
