enable navigation to previous view or zoom/pan level

When a user zooms and pans multiple times, sometimes user wants to go back to previous view rather than resetting the axes and zooming/panning multiple times to arrive at a specific view. It looks like this feature is not available. Is it possible to add this feature?

Example:
Initial plot(reset axes)

First zoom

Second zoom

After the Second zoom, I just want to go to First zoom with out resetting axes. This problem exaggerates for multiple navigations in a plot with many data points

This is supported in matplotlib using Forward and Back buttons.
