Multiple aestetics in scale_*_virids_d() not supported

I tried to convert the following (simplified) ggplot2 object into a plotly object:

plot <- ggplot(iris, aes(x = Sepal.Length, y = Sepal.Width, colour = Species, fill = Species)) + 
  geom_point() + 
  scale_fill_viridis_d(option = "viridis", aesthetics = c("colour", "fill"))

Using ggplotly(plot) throws the error

Error in [[<-(*tmp*, sc$aesthetics, value = sc) : no such index at level 1

Separating the aesthetics works fine as does specifying only one argument in the "aesthetic" argument or writing a line for each aesthetic.
