Right now, the native OS's color picker is used when selecting custom colors in the app (like for the appearance of engraving elements, score colors defined in Preferences > Advanced, and high-contrast UI colors defined in Preferences > General). This sometimes causes problems with window hierarchy (detailed here).

We should build a custom color picker for use across all OSs in MuseScore Studio. Ideally, it would provide quick access to at least:

  • Hex entry
  • RGB entry
  • A color spectrum picker
  • Opacity

It might also allow you to still open the OS color picker for more options.

Note: This is separate from https://github.com/musescore/MuseScore/issues/17714, which is a color picker for various app UI elements (mixer channels, percussion pads, etc.)
