Research direction

Start by reading the issue discussion and the rudimentary implementation in PR #7366, focusing on combining magnetometers and gradiometers at the epochs level with as_type. Clarify the expected behavior for induced power, single-trial statistics, and decoding, then determine how the result should compare with the original evokeds.

Description

I would like to bring back the discussion about combining magnetometers and gradiometers on the epochs level, to use the information from both sensor types for single trial analyses, i.e. computing induced power, single trial statistics, or possibly decoding.

I implemented a rudimentary version of it (PR #7366), but am surprised to see that there is hardly any difference with the original evokeds.
