Assisted issue and pull request descriptions

Identified problem

In a large open source project like VS Code, the quality of issues and pull request descriptions can vary depending on the contributor’s experience. Some reports may lack important technical details, making bugs more difficult to reproduce and reviews slower to complete.

Even with existing templates, maintainers and reviewers may still need additional clarification before validating a contribution.

Suggested solution

Introduce an assistance feature during issue and pull request creation to help contributors provide clearer and more complete information.

The system could analyze the written content in real time and:

• suggest missing details
• detect ambiguous descriptions
• request reproduction steps
• recommend expected behavior or acceptance criteria

For example, if an issue report does not contain enough information to reproduce a bug, the assistant could notify the contributor before submission.

This feature could initially be optional in order to improve communication quality without affecting the flexibility of the current workflow.
