My suggestion meets these guidelines:

• This wouldn't be a breaking change in existing TypeScript/JavaScript code
• This wouldn't change the runtime behavior of existing JavaScript code
• This could be implemented without emitting different JS based on the types of the expressions
• This isn't a runtime feature (e.g. library functionality, non-ECMAScript syntax with JavaScript output, new syntax sugar for JS, etc.)
• This feature would agree with the rest of TypeScript's Design Goals.

Improve the experience of string literal edit.

📃 Motivating Example

let str = 'a very very /*cursor*/very long string'

Press Enter at cursor.

let str = 'a very very ' +
    'very long string'

And should not provide this in template literal.

No file, test, or entry point is named. Start from the motivating TypeScript example and compare the requested Enter behavior in ordinary string literals with the stated exclusion for template literals; done means the editor splits the string as shown without changing runtime behavior.
