Description

I am not able to use example provided at https://github.com/Microsoft/TypeScript/wiki/Using-the-Compiler-API#using-the-type-checker. It throws following exception:

-- typescript@2.1.4
node docGenerator.js interface.ts
C:\Users\...\node_modules\typescript\lib\typescript.js:33364
            if (location.kind === 70 /* Identifier */) {
                        ^
TypeError: Cannot read property 'kind' of undefined
    at Object.getTypeOfSymbolAtLocation

Research direction

Start with the Using the Compiler API wiki example, especially the Using the Type Checker section, and run node docGenerator.js interface.ts with typescript@2.1.4. Trace the reported failure in node_modules/typescript/lib/typescript.js and verify that the documented example runs without the exception.
