Description

This is because remove_ticks_and_titles from matplotlib doesn't remove them. The question is, should ours? This would break any tests relying on the current behavior. However, I think the current behavior is really confusing.

Research direction

Start at the remove_text behavior and compare it with Matplotlib's remove_ticks_and_titles behavior. Inspect existing tests that depend on axis labels remaining, then determine the expected compatibility before changing them; done means the behavior is decided and the relevant tests reflect it.
