Description
Issue described here:
[http://stackoverflow.com/questions/22635144/preserving-axis-annotation-while-interactively-zooming-in-on-a-matplotlib-basema](http://stackoverflow.com/questions/22635144/preserving-axis-annotation-while-interactively-zooming-in-on-a-matplotlib-basema)
Axis used in Basemap plots loses the tickmarks when plot is zoomed.
I would suggest a boolian operator to allow for readjustment of axis ticks?

Research direction
Start with the linked Stack Overflow report and reproduce the axis-tick loss when interactively zooming a Basemap plot. The issue names no files or tests, so first identify the zoom behavior involved and clarify the proposed boolean option; done should mean that axis ticks remain available after interactive zooming.
