Description

I have noticed that the version number for basemap available via pip is 1.0.7 while the [documentation says 1.0.8](http://matplotlib.org/basemap/index.html) (top left corner). It seemed that most repos ([like sourceforge](http://sourceforge.net/projects/matplotlib/files/matplotlib-toolkits/)) are reporting 1.0.7 as the latest version. The version number in the documentation should be rolled back to match the software.

Research direction

Start with the linked Basemap documentation page and inspect the top-left version number, then compare it with the pip and SourceForge references mentioned in the issue. Done means the documentation reports the same latest version as the software and the referenced release sources.
