Description
We need to remove all std::futures being passed in control client and proxy so that we can replace then with atomic types.
The reason. I need to uniquely identify threads on cc, and promises seem to make this too complex. I'd like to switch to using promises on pipes instead.

Research direction
Start by locating the control client and proxy code that passes std::future or std::promise values, then review how promises on pipes are intended to replace them. Done means those futures are removed from the control client and proxy and replaced with atomic types, with thread identification on cc still supported.
