Description

If I call Repository.ListRemoteReferences(string, CredentialsHandler) with a CredentialsHandler that returns invalid credentials, I get an exception with the message "this remote has never connected". It would be nice if the message indicated invalid credentials.

Research direction

Start at Repository.ListRemoteReferences(string, CredentialsHandler) and trace how invalid credentials are handled when the callback returns them. Reproduce the call with invalid credentials and inspect the resulting exception. Done means the exception message clearly indicates invalid credentials instead of saying that the remote has never connected.
