Start with the linked WaitTest.py demo of the wait_variable bug and review issue978604.diff for the proposed direction. Reproduce the exit hang in the Tkinter component, then inspect the current regression coverage and linked PR gh-152619. Done means the reported wait_variable exit behavior no longer hangs and the relevant test coverage passes.
