Dataset Title
Macrobenthos and Sediment Properties Dataset – Guliakhali, and Salimpur Coast (2025)
Describe your dataset and any specific challenges or blockers you have or anticipate.
This dataset contains observations of macrobenthic species and associated sediment properties collected from two coastal areas of Chittagong, Bangladesh: Guliakhali and Salimpur. Sampling was conducted during the Monsoon and includes data on species abundance, richness, and diversity indices.
In addition to biological data, sediment properties were analysed, including grain size distribution, organic matter content, salinity, and pH. These variables are important for understanding the ecological factors influencing macrobenthos distribution and habitat suitability.
The dataset can be used to study biodiversity patterns, benthic-environment relationships, and the effects of human activities on coastal ecosystems.
Anticipated challenges include:
- Aligning species taxonomy with Darwin Core standards.
- Ensuring consistent formatting of sediment property measurements.
- Possible gaps in physical-chemical data due to tidal variation and logistical constraints.
Info about "raw" Data Files.
“The raw data is currently stored in a large Excel file containing macrobenthos species counts and sediment property measurements. The file does not yet include standardized headers or Darwin Core mapping. A structured template will need to be developed to align the data with Darwin Core before submission to OBIS.”
