Description

When trying to download data (as of 23 January 2026) the manual download returns the below message for all the species that I have tried -- both cetaceans and seabirds. The other day, the data download for individual species did seem to work.

This seemed to be the only main option as when trying to download data through the S3 buckets, the page returns an error with the associated XML file.

Is there a way to use the R code for bulk download without a AWS S3 API key? That is the most desirable pathway, but when reviewing the code, line 16 seems designate a personal API key -- am I understanding this correctly?

Research direction

Start with scripts/download_aws_model.R, especially line 16, and review the attached downloadSpeciesAction.html alongside the reported manual-download and S3 index errors. Determine whether the bulk-download path can work without a personal AWS S3 API key; done means the affected downloads work or the required access method is clearly documented.
