But in general I still do want a solution that figures out if we have incompatible major versions within a library. Maybe this will become easier if/when we decide this monorepo should live at HEAD (rather than pulling from npm).

Start by reading pull request 932 and the discussion on pull request 926, then compare the proposed alternatives, including sherif, with the reasons for dropping syncpack. Define a dependency check that detects incompatible major versions without unnecessarily updating patch versions; completion should include an agreed solution and its integration into the monorepo workflow.
