Require retry support for 503 service unavailable errors while uploading files to Cloud storage

We have been using the google-api-services-storage library for client-side integration for our customers. Off late, a few customers are reporting consistent "503 service unavailable" errors during upload to Cloud storage. We had a look at the library code and don't see any retry mechanism/exponential backoff as part of the library, but the underlying google-java-http-client library has. Is there any possibility of enhancing the storage library to expose retries?
