Research direction
The issue names the Makefile, setup.py, and a setuptools plugin, with a reference to gopy's setup.py guidance. Start by reviewing the current Makefile and the referenced example to determine the intended replacement workflow. Done should mean the supported build process is defined and validated, but the issue does not specify files, tests, or acceptance criteria.
