Persist Reasoning Effort between sessions

Preserve not only the model but the reasoning effort to be used.

Proposed solution

I’d like the reasoning effort setting to persist across restarts as a default. Today, /config model persists, but the effort resets to Medium even after setting High in /settings. This makes it impossible to define a default high-effort profile for all sessions. Please prioritize making effort part of the persisted app settings.

Example prompts or workflows

Use the CLI’s config command to set the default reasoning effort:

• User default:  /config reasoning-effort high 
• Repo-only default:  /config --repo reasoning-effort high 
• Local-only default:  /config --local reasoning-effort high 

If you want to confirm current settings, run:

•  /config 

This changes the default reasoning effort for future sessions; the current session can be adjusted with  /model  or the session settings UI if needed.
