Description
**Original report ([archived issue](https://osrf-migration.github.io/ignition-gh-pages/#!/ignitionrobotics/ign-rendering/issues/14)) by Nate Koenig (Bitbucket: [Nathan Koenig](https://bitbucket.org/%7Bc862cdd9-fcc8-4419-9fc7-e20db14b8fcb%7D/)).**
----------------------------------------
The name of objects (Object::Name) is used by the GUI, but the Name is not user friendly. For example, the name has a number in order to guarantee uniqueness.
Maybe an Object can support a "user-friendly" name as well.

Research direction
Start by tracing Object::Name from the rendering API into the GUI usage described in the issue. Determine how names currently gain uniqueness and define what a separate user-friendly name should mean across the abstraction and its rendering engines. Done means the API and behavior are agreed and the relevant GUI usage can display the friendly name without losing uniqueness.
