Description
It is "adopted" by BIDS now (https://bids-specification.readthedocs.io/en/stable/modality-agnostic-files/dataset-description.html#citationcff) and would be more expressive to describe Authors/Contributors etc. Moreover, if desired, it could then be used to facilitate creating of zenodo entries (zenodo also switched to use it in favor of internal zenodo.json)

Research direction
Start by reviewing the BIDS citation.cff specification linked in the issue, then examine how DANDI dandisets and DataCite records expose citation metadata. Done means the project produces a valid CITATION.cff that represents authors and contributors and can support the described Zenodo workflow.
