Possible to listen to changes in Touch ID availability?

I often move my MacBook between use with lid open (when in a meeting) and use with lid closed (when at my desk).

Touch ID is only available when my lid is open, so apps like 1Password and similar adapts their UI depending on the current state.

Being able to add an event listener of some kind which could trigger when the availability changes would allow for an Electron app to adapt its UI accordingly and map well with responsive design.
