Description

FYI:
I'm studying the code more carefully, and I notice a little trick you're doing to get the url using an anchor element. While researching that a bit, I found on SO (see below) that there can be a bug in IE8 where the leading slash isn't included (IE not following the standard because the standard came after the implementation, and changing to the standard would break backward compatibility for the browser).

I'm not sure yet if this is a potential bug or not (I see the url is being dis-assembled for later re-assembly), but I thought I should jot the observation in an issue for reference, if we need it.

Research direction

No source file or test is named. Start by locating the JavaScript that gets a URL through an anchor element and later disassembles and reassembles it; compare IE8 behavior with the linked references. Done means determining whether the leading-slash difference is a real bug and, if so, covering the behavior and correcting it.
