Description

To improve the contribution workflow and drive community involvement, we need feedback on the process we have established. Anyone is welcome to weigh in on this issue by commenting and describing your experience and/or how it could be improved; no need to assign yourself. For now, this issue is just a discussion. New sub-issues can be created to address necessary changes that get agreed upon through discussion.

You might have feedback on:
Are the issue descriptions clear? Do you know what you should do?
Is it difficult or easy to coordinate your work with other contributors (as needed)?
Are there issues you feel you can contribute to?
Are the issue templates useful?
Does CONTRIBUTING.md need revision?
Does the system for acknowledging contributors need revision?
Anything else related to contributing

Research direction

Review CONTRIBUTING.md, the issue descriptions, and the issue templates, then compare them with contributors' experiences gathered in this discussion. The immediate outcome is agreed feedback and clearly scoped changes; any implementation should be created as a new sub-issue after discussion.
