bug: Update waiting window hangs while waiting for core to boot

### Bug description

When downloading or applying a different core image, Version Chooser loads the image, then goes into an endless cycle of saying "Switching to new core...". I can see the switch works correctly, because the header greys out when the initial core disconnects, and then turns blue again when the new one is online, but the "Switching to new core..." message stays there, and the page doesn't refresh (e.g. to clear the "disconnected" notifications that happened during switching).
