# Problem

Today I get notification when a new version of aws q is available (via aws q) then I need to find the page that have the link and download it manually. This is tedious and as I have found out slightly error prone as if the previous version of the amazon-q is there then it will not download it with the current instructions.

# Solution
Upgrade the same s3 to be apt repository ready too (this can be setup to NOT affect other releases) there are even a tool for this: [deb-s3](https://github.com/deb-s3/deb-s3 ) that you easily can add to your CI/CD and it will auto update the S3 bucket when new releases comes.

```
$ deb-s3 upload --bucket desktop-release.q amazon-q-1.16.1_amd64.deb
>> Examining package file amazon-q-1.16.1_amd64.deb
>> Retrieving existing package manifest
>> Uploading package and new manifests to S3
-- Transferring pool/a/am/amazon-q-1.16.1_amd64.deb
-- Transferring dists/stable/main/binary-amd64/Packages
-- Transferring dists/stable/main/binary-amd64/Packages.gz
-- Transferring dists/stable/Release
>> Update complete.
```

This will enable Ubuntu/Debian based OS to update amazon-q with:
```
sudo apt upgrade
```
(is also: by design allow users to downgrade and lock version of amazon q if needed)

## Optional
As an optional step in installing add /etc/apt/sources.list.d/amazon-q.list file to the apt package. (See Google Chrome as an example)

This would setup the complete chain (and possibly for repo key update the same way) in one go, and the amazon-q would follow best practice for securing and update handling on Ubuntu/Debian based OS

## Current solution

The current solution can be left as is. You can even just add push the amazon-q latest to exactly the same place and use that as the general starting point.

Rechercherichtung
