Desktop version does not support some key bindings (e.g. F-keys, Shift+F-keys) unlike Android:

## **What happened?**

In the Android version of Anki, it is possible to assign a wide range of keyboard shortcuts, including function keys (F1, F2, F3, etc.) and modifier combinations like Shift+F1.

However, in the desktop version, certain keys (such as function keys and some modifier combinations) cannot be assigned as shortcuts, while simpler keys like 1, 2, 3, 4 work correctly.

---

## **Expected behavior**

The desktop version should support the same level of flexibility as the Android version for keyboard shortcut assignment, including:

* Function keys (F1–F12)
* Modified function keys (Shift+F1, Ctrl+F2, etc.)
* Consistent shortcut handling across platforms

---

## **Actual behavior**

On desktop:

* Keys like 1, 2, 3, 4 can be assigned successfully
* Function keys (F1, F2, etc.) cannot be assigned
* Some modifier combinations (e.g. Shift+F1) are not recognized or cannot be saved as shortcuts

On Android:

* A wider range of keys and combinations can be assigned successfully

---

## **Steps to reproduce**

1. Open Anki Desktop
2. Go to Preferences → Shortcuts (or relevant shortcut configuration area)
3. Try assigning:

* F1 or F2
* Shift+F1
4. Observe that these inputs are not accepted or not saved

---

## **Use case**

Users who rely on keyboard-driven workflows (e.g. power users or fast reviewers) benefit from:

* Using function keys for grading (Again/Good/Easy)
* Using consistent shortcuts across devices
* Faster review sessions without reaching for number row

---

## **Additional note**

This appears to be a discrepancy between Android and desktop input handling, possibly due to differences in the UI framework or key event processing layer.

Rechercherichtung

Start in Anki Desktop's Preferences → Shortcuts flow and compare how F-keys and modified F-keys are captured and saved against Android. The issue names no source files or tests; done means F1–F12 and modifier combinations can be assigned and saved consistently on desktop.
