Chatty doesn't join any channels on some IRC daemons

I'm trying to use chatty on IRC daemons such as Charybdis or InspIRCd, and chatty doesn't join any of the specified channels.
I haven't studied the problem very well because I'm not into IRC protocol design, but maybe chatty sends the JOIN message a bit too early?
Maybe putting a 3-4 seconds delay would solve it. I'm just throwing ideas in the basket because I'm very tired.
