Description
Following discussions with Alexandros, Long, Barry, Joana, we’ve aligned on a simplified migration strategy that avoids additional budget requirements for either connecting the old projects from Drupal or additional money to maintaince on Drupal. Focusing on the manual import of approximately 38 ongoing projects (ending after April 2025) from Drupal into the new WordPress platform.
Key points of the implementation:
Manual Migration: Ongoing projects and their associated assets will be manually recreated in WordPress once the platform is ready.
Author Attribution: Project owners from the old Drupal platform will be assigned as authors based on their email addresses to retain edit/create permissions for their content.
User Communication: Users with migrated projects will receive a personalized email with instructions on how to access the new platform, complete registration (if needed) and manage their content.
Platform Transition UI:
- The contribution page on the old portal will redirect to the new platform's contribution section.
- A disclaimer will be added to notify users on the old platform that ongoing projects must now be edited on the new WordPress site.
- Legacy Content: Projects concluded before April 2025 will remain accessible on the old Drupal platform, which will be maintained with minimal support.
This task includes setting up user roles and permissions in WordPress, configuring the redirections and pop-up notices, drafting and sending the user instruction emails, and coordinating the manual import with the team.
