If this had a fallback for IE, that'd be amazing.

IE doesn't support CSS resize and the jQuery plugins that exist are not CSS-intelligent and they really want you to download a bunch of jquery-ui stuff (including stylesheets).

If this was intelligent that would be amazing.

Start by reviewing the existing autoresize implementation and the IE/CSS resize limitations described in this issue. Compare the available jQuery plugin approaches and their jquery-ui dependencies, then define the fallback scope and a reproducible IE check; done means CSS-aware resizing works in IE without requiring unrelated jquery-ui stylesheets.
