Would like to make the user enter his/her preferred name and display it storing the name in the local storage of the broswer.

The issue does not name files or tests. Start by locating the Chrome extension's default-page entry point and the existing display flow, then check how browser local storage is used. Done means a user can enter a preferred name, the name is stored locally, and it is displayed on the custom homepage after reopening it.
