Input Field text overflow handling

Character overflow not handled properly in login page. After inserting too many characters then pressing backspace, some of the characters are deleted while others show as underscore.

Start at the login page's input-field implementation and reproduce the issue by exceeding its character limit, then pressing backspace. Trace the state and rendering path for deleted characters; done means overflow text is handled consistently and backspace leaves no underscore artifacts.
