Docs: Write documentation for the pkg

Write a detailed readme and contributing md file for the package.
Also mention the functions we expose and what we are planning to add later.

Start by inspecting the package's exported functions and the existing repository contents. Update the README and add a CONTRIBUTING.md file, documenting the exposed functions and planned future additions. Done means both documents are present, detailed, and accurately describe the package and its contribution process.
