Passing searchField paramaters like in filterBy

In order to allow dynamic changes of searchField parameters, wouldn't it be better to pass them in an array like filterBy does? (searchField: [prop, nested.prop, etc..], instead of searchField: prop: nested.prop: etc..)
The old notation could be kept just for backward compatibilty...
