Request

Hello Xiaomi Open Source Team,

We, members of the developer community, are writing to formally request the release of the complete kernel source code, device tree sources, and associated redistributable vendor binaries for the Xiaomi 17 Ultra series, collectively identified by the codename nezha.

This request covers the following devices and regional variants:

  • Xiaomi 17 Ultra
  • Xiaomi 17 Ultra by Leica
  • Leica Leitzphone powered by Xiaomi
  • China, Global, and India variants
  • Non-satellite and satellite communication variants

GPLv2 Compliance

These devices ship with and run the Linux kernel.

Under the terms of the GNU General Public License version 2, distributors of GPLv2-licensed kernel binaries are required to make the complete corresponding source code available to recipients in accordance with the license terms.

For production devices that have already been distributed to consumers, publication of the complete corresponding kernel source code is a license compliance requirement rather than merely a courtesy to the developer community.

The published source should correspond to the kernel binaries included in the commercial firmware currently distributed for these devices.

Requested Components

We respectfully request the publication of the following components:

  • Complete kernel source code for nezha
  • All Xiaomi-specific kernel modifications and patches
  • All applicable Qualcomm modifications and patches
  • Device-specific kernel drivers and modules
  • Kernel configuration and defconfig files
  • Device tree source files, including DTS and DTSI files
  • Device-specific build scripts and build configurations
  • Module lists and configuration fragments
  • Additional GPL-licensed or otherwise applicable open-source components included in the production firmware
  • Build documentation and instructions required to compile the kernel successfully
  • Redistributable vendor blobs and proprietary binaries required for functional AOSP-based builds, where Xiaomi is legally permitted or required to distribute them
  • Device-specific resources needed for all listed regional and hardware variants

Source Completeness

Please ensure that the released source code corresponds to the kernel binaries and firmware versions distributed on production units.

A generic chipset source release that omits device-specific modifications, configuration files, drivers, modules, or build instructions would not be sufficient to reproduce the shipped kernel.

Where different variants use different configurations or hardware components, please include the relevant source code and configuration for each of the following models:

  • 2512BPNDAC
  • 2512BPNDAG
  • 2512BPNDAI
  • 25128PNA1C
  • 25128PNA1G

Benefits of Publication

A timely and complete release would:

  • Help ensure compliance with applicable GPLv2 source code obligations
  • Allow developers to compile and verify the kernel shipped with these devices
  • Enable the development and maintenance of AOSP-based custom ROMs and kernels
  • Support security research and independent auditing
  • Improve device longevity, repairability, and long-term software support
  • Continue Xiaomi's established support for the Android open-source development community
  • Strengthen cooperation between Xiaomi, Leica, independent developers, and the wider open-source community

Requested Action

Please publish the complete corresponding kernel source code and related open-source components in Xiaomi's official kernel source repository.

If the source release is already being prepared, we would appreciate an estimated publication date or an update regarding its current status.

If the source has already been published, please provide the official repository URL, the appropriate branch or tag, and the corresponding firmware or kernel version.

Thank you for your time, attention, and cooperation.

Research direction

The issue names no repository files, tests, or implementation entry points. Start by checking the official Xiaomi kernel source repository for a nezha release and compare it with the listed models and requested components; done means the corresponding kernel sources, device trees, configurations, build instructions, and permitted blobs are published or their status is documented.
