Description

This is the main "code base" within MEDS-DEV that is actually functional, utility code. It should be robustly tested with both integration tests (covered by current usage tests) and unit tests which should be added via doctests. The latter does not exist yet and is covered by this issue.

Research direction

Start by locating the functional run commands utility code in MEDS-DEV and reviewing the existing usage tests, which provide integration coverage. Add unit coverage as doctests for the run commands code, and verify that the doctests and current usage tests pass.
